Church Camp
I went to a church camp this week. It was probably the most amazing week of my life! I went there not knowing anyone except the 3 adults that I traveled with. To sum it up, there were 500 high schoolers there and I was a weee bit nervous. I got there checked in to my dorm and met my room mates. they were both totally awesome! We hung out, met our group for the week, and tried to get to know people. The funny thing is we had the smallest group and the most counselors! It was pretty much amaZing! Over the week we went to 3 classes a day and chapel 2 times. I actually took notes in the classes! It was so cool I learned so much! At this camp, they worship with out any instruments! At first I was like, ok.... but after the first day I was so in love with it! One of the most impacting things that week was that I was in a room with 500 people my own age. We were ALL singing and worshiping God in 4 part harmony. I look around and I'm amazed that the guys are all singing just as much as the girls! Idk if it was just me or it it's true that if you get teen guys to sing hymns in front of peers it's a miracle! lol Worshiping like that was awesome!
The theme for the week was HOPE. What we put our hope in and what takes it away. On the last day I went to a class called HOPE STEALERS. This class was put on like a play and set up a story that drained any form of hope out of you. Towards the end of the class they tied our hands up TIGHT to the point that it hurt and told us that that was our bondage and what was keeping us from having hope in God. then they turned on a Christian song and left us with the option to go up to the front and cut the things that held us tight or to leave it there. By this point a friend of mine was crying and she wasn't the only one. About 1/2 the class had tears running down their cheeks. I just sat there in the front row and didn't get up to cut my ties off. one of my good friends got up and he started to cut the others off before he even thought of himself. He took one look at me just sitting there all tied up and cut my ties off.
When he did this it made something inside of me realize that I can't hope on my own. I can't forgive on my own. I have to have some big strong guy take me the last step. To me. my friend represented God. I can't do anything with out him and his power. HE gives hope to those who feel like they have none. HE forgives and teaches us how to forgive. HE is the one that we can't live with out. HE is my best friend the LORD of my life and my GOD.
